NATIONAL DISASTER COUNCIL ISSUES MARINE SAFETY WARNING

[SIBC News, 10 January 2010] - The National Disaster Management Office has issued a Marine safety warning to people in the country.

The Disaster Council says a fresh to strong wind advisory is current for the people of Temotu, Makira/ Ulawa and Rennell/ Bellona Provinces.

This is due to an active trough to the South of the Country, linked to a tropical depression of 997 hectapascals East of Efate, Vanuatu and slowly moving with heavy rain at times, fresh to strong winds and rough seas expected within the next 24 hours over most Islands.

The National Disaster Council warns all mariners and sea farers to take extra precaution when travelling at sea and to listen to SIBC for further advice.
